Curb Project Cost curb Corruption

Our administrators or politicians love to cut ribbon in opening ceremonies. But did they ever bother about the actual cost incurred vs the should be cost ? In most of the work carried out by panchayats, municipalities or public works department, no one knows what is going on. The omniscient among all are the one who have contracted out and the contractor who is vested with serpentine responsibility of completing the task.

The simplest example of such over expenditure is a bus stop. One can see the bus stop in rural areas or suburban areas. The bus stop is typically a concrete shade with bulged slabs for public to sit. Its area may vary from 200 to 400 square feet. This small unit may cost upto ten lakhs. Bus stop after few days of inauguration becomes home for stray animals and drug addicts. People usually take bus either few metres before or after the stop. Bus drivers too become addict to stop before or after the bus stop but never at those stops. Few years later the structure is demolished to follow the new cycle of construction.

Similar structure can be made in much less budget and will be aesthetically durable too.Any bus stop in metro with iron pipes and fibre sheets displaying advertisements is such structure.
The first one  is pure loss of public money: no use for that specific purpose, misuse of place and above all looting of money which otherwise could have been used to serve hunger stricken belly. There could be two reasons for this. One, the authorities escalate the price and have their cut without any study and planning. Second, they are unaware of latest developments going in and around the world. But in both the cases a nation loses.

Integrity of the machinery which is working to mint money for themselves is a challenge to all the public administrations all over the world. However adhering strictly to design cost and timeline is the key to the solution. Failing in any of the parameter may be dealt with criminal proceedings. Not only the contractor even the officials who have been involved on the project, should be prosecuted. Thus fixing them accountable for each and every loss.

The second solution need an approach of learning by example, training and above all the exchange of knowledge design and technology from bigger cities to towns and village panchayats. This design sharing will not only reduce the cost but also eliminate leakage present in the current system. The major problem is the mental block which has been crippling the nations growth.

Bus stop is just an example it could be arterial roads, street lights, fencing, dividers, community parks, buildings and many more. This sharing of ideas costs nothing and above all the fruits of good things is distributed among the citizens of nation.

Boycott Corruption

Boycott Corruption
None can keep honey in tongue without having slight taste of it.We as a citizen of nation are surrounded by things which can similarly not remain unaffected by act of community or governments. These actions in this era can also never remain aloof from Corruption .The food we eat (purchased and repurchased to escalate the price) the water we drink (being contaminated by efficient bribe methodology) the air we breathe ( pollutants released fairly by paying hefty sum by vehicular companies or industries) the house we live in (the foundation is laid after revenue dept is well fed) the road we walk (built and rebuilt with inferior material to have steady booty) are all rotten by disease called Corruption.

The effect of this cancerous evil is tremendous which may range from losing money and health by individuals, governments etc  and even upto loss of lives.Yes, many who could not fight the corrupt system against them either in police station or district revenue departments succumb to die.All our farmers who commit suicide are martyrs because they fight poverty hunger and above all a corrupt system. Farm suicides are actually homicides committed by the conans of filthy corrupted system. We do not have records because we never dig into the lives of these  debt ridden soldiers.

There is rage in public against Corruption. This rage among divided population is such that on evocation they overthrew the erstwhile established government at Delhi. Sadly these so called agents of change have lately been smitten by ‘Power Snake’. Instead of what they had promised to the people they tirelessly work to conquer other states. Our current prime minister has charismatic persona and by virtue of this the nation has seen brooms in the hands of young and the old.Even he seems to be lethargic on the issue and people are waiting for him to wage a war against Corruption.

What an individual can do to combat Corruption?

A very basic phenomenon of corruption can be understood by following Maslow’s need hierarchy. After attainment of things required for comfortable living an individual pries for respect and self esteem in society. The thing to notice is , that in India ours is a society comprising of close knitted families. And the subject (person capable of indulging in Corruption) abide by the rules of family. He does all this to have a so called respectable status in community. This is the place where an individual can hit upon corruption. One of the greatest misfortune for Indian society is that the love and respect for people or families are solely dependent on their monetary possession. We as youth desire for offices which offers maximum extra income irrespective of its nature or however low it is.

Judiciary, the enforcement directorate or the tax department knows little about the sources of income but gossip monger in locality or colony very well know it. All we need is to Boycott him or her and their family members. Never invite them in any of the functions or parties, greet people next to them but never pay heed to their presence.Treat them as rude as you can. Withdraw every help you had ever offered them. This will eventually make them remorseful of their deeds. During the course we may find that we are too harsh on them but think of miseries caused by these corrupt people, this can even be death to many. And against these heinous crimes we are just making them realize their mistakes.

Believe me these people or their families are very sensitive towards their status. Even a slight blow to this status may have lasting impact on their deeds. Harsher each one of us towards them sooner will they realize and abstain from misdeeds.

Deprivation of Medals-A Quadrennial Calamity

India is huge country with great potential yet we lag in sports. The author tries to fix this with a solution.

A child’s heart is the purest reflection of desires. The foremost among all these desires is desire to play, play with all heart. Thus nature nurtures human to play.We live in society and our traits transform as per the society’s norms.Had there been no influence of any such social set up we all would have been playing (not necessarily in organised manner but Newton’s  law of inertia had done it so).

We are 1.2 billion yet we are facing a serious crisis of winning no medal in Olympics .Winning in Olympics or any such sport event doesn’t make a nation prosperous or great , it  shows how alive are we and the winning nation is.It is showcase of majesty and unity. However it is not honest to expect  medals without giving any infrastructure to the stakeholders.Yearning for medals once in four years is like student who swears after every semester that he or she will perform in the coming ones. Haryana as an state has done a lot for sports be it Bhivadi or Rohtak, they have encouraging environment for sports compared to rest of the nation.
Most of us are very enthusiastic about sports  but shrinking spaces  to play and to accommodate these players (if sport is chosen as a career) gradually make us mere spectators.Any vacant plot ,it will soon be captured by builders brokers or land mafia.Above all, the callous  attitude of administrators towards sports facilities has made the condition more grim.If by chance, you get some players out of their fortune then also they get nervous while competing at the international podium because they come across things which have never been encountered during training. Now a days we see very less kids go for outdoor games,if asked why ? The answer is similar everywhere and very disheartening that there is no place to play. They are bound to play mobile games. We are having long sea border but we can’t produce cross channel swimmers,a big army but not a boxer or a weight lifter,in kerala we have a proud rowing team but even they can’t compete in Olympics and the list is long….

What could be the preventive measure ? The solution to this simple but overlooked by our administrators. We have to make grounds and arrangements to play  in every locality. The children from the very childhood should be motivated by giving them proper guidance. Some players play throughout their lives to get a decent job through sports quota. It is the government who has to assure them that by taking sports their career won’t be jeopardised. In the middle of their age they don’t have to struggle for livelihood. We have to stand tall away from petty politics, making an environment for sports to come along with corporate help.

We cannot make any sports success until it goes into the veins of larger middle class population.Just like cricket which was once the game of upper class and very unknown till 80s but it witnessed major infiltration from middle class and result was we won a world cup and are proud to have a great cricketing side today. Most people wonder that cricket is killing all other sports in India. But the reality is people do not find any other sport around them which through which they can connect.Though all the sport has this capability the need is to popularise them. Our country will be flooded by medals if we do not leave them on their fortune and will do the preventive maintenance.

Carbon Footprints: Count Yours for better Planet

The total number of green house gases emitted to support the human activities is known as carbon footprint. For humans it is more specific to carbon dioxide and thus expressed as  CO2e.Each human action be it breathing, resting or blinking of eyes  requires energy. And this energy comes from food which in turn comes at the  cost of Carbon. Thus as long as we human live we continue to contribute to carbon emission: the more we use the things more is the contribution.

The most important to sustain life is oxygen  then comes the water and then food followed by other things. The production of oxygen which is mostly done by the flora of the planet only consumes carbon to emit oxygen, rest all necessities do the vice versa. If we take food for an example human do use some machine or animals to yield, these machines or animals do use energy in some form or the other and emit Carbon. The smoke from industries, vehicular pollution, domestic household uses of fire are the major causes of increase of green house gases. It is astonishingly ugly fact that half of the emisson is due to food waste.

We have diviced methods to tackle pollution like discouraging use of fossil fuels, regulatory check for chimneys of industries, prevention of forest fire, plantation of trees etc. These fine measures are need of the hour. But the most important thing is yet to be done. An individual is taught that he or she can contribute to the environment by    either planting trees or preventing pollution. However he or she can contribute much more than this by just acting little environment friendly way.Now what is that?

Using the things as per their need is the simplest answer to it. Suppose I have more purchasing power than average fellow citizen and I am capable of paying any amount of bill for gasoline or electricity.Yet I am  not entitled to waste electricity or fuel as it must have been produced by leaving  Carbon Footprints . Recycling and reusing the things like polythene  and bottles etc will reduce the consumption and thus the production of the these environment hazards. And above all prevention of food waste not only in logistics but also from food plates.

We move, we breathe, we sleep :at every moment we leave carbon Footprints. To reduce it, is not to Live Less but make a Shadow Green Footprint which walk upon to overlap and wipe it up.

Youth in Farming-Road to Sustainability

A very obvious question you must have been asked as a kid or you must have asked to a kid “What you wanna be when you grow up?? The answer to this question is quirky and kids do respond like Pilot, Doctor, Teacher, Cop even like his or her father etc.But I am sure none of us have heard a Farmer as an answer to this question. We all need pilots, doctors and teachers in our lives sometime or the other but we require Farmers each day.
“Uncle Sam(US as initials) needs you” was perhaps the first campaign to attract youth to army during World War I. We often come across advertisements of coaching institutes for producing such wannabe doctors teachers or pilots. After they are made also do we see institutions calling  for these people. Its rare to see such case for farmers. Neither for education nor for the practice. All our educational institutes engaged in vocation of Agriculture preach its pupil to grab a job in extending loan, selling(seeds and fertilizers) or be an agricultural scientist and thus to never be in recipient’s side. How many of these grads or post grads practice farming?

October, the sixteenth each year is the day when the whole world churns finding the ways to feed the increasing population this includes increasing agricultural productivity through better farm practices, improving distribution networks, minimizing the food losses. But did we ever think about the most important link of this whole cycle the people involved, No.The human resource is the most important link of any business. Its never been emphasized that the people involved in Agriculture and allied services be educated or better informed. Also no where in the world youth are encouraged to get into Agriculture or Farming.

Every nation has its problems and some are unique to its geographical boundaries. India has a problem that most of its farmers are either middle aged or old,the majority of whom has fallen accidently to this non lucrative occupation (not profession). Youth in India never thinks of taking farming as a profession and keeps on running towards white collar jobs and that too in big cities. This is obvious because all of them had not seen it and those who had been, seen only in bad shape. The disfigured shape of Agriculture which only had afflicted pain and misery to its practiser.

The veterans who hold the baton never learned or changed themselves to follow technology and scientific way. And thus the baton (a Farmer always thinks of his future generation not to follow his stink) which of course passed accidently had the same stereo typed fuel with no advancement. The youth today is encompassed with information. If such informed youth get to the Profession (not occupation) a significant change would be immediately seen in present subsistence form of agricultural practices.
The greatest advantage of youth is being a youth. The young people especially of present times are experimental and does not much believe in experiential knowledge . They have an appetite for risk and more years to learn.Informed people can do things in good way.Policies of the government can be utilised in a better way by educated people in farming. An educated and aware farmer is less susceptible to exploitation which by far is the most depressed among all occupational classes.
Even the most developed nations are facing the problem of feeding their rising population. The Indian Agriculture is plagued by depleted soil efficiency, lack of irritation, soil erosion, debt ridden farmers, shrinking agri land and above all vagaries of nature in the form of draught, flood and hailstorm. There can be no single remedy but informed farmer can tackle all these in better way. The government will have to incentivise those willing to take Agriculture as profession. The process of leasing land for such purposes may be made simpler. Also those in government jobs and eager to take Agriculture should be granted sabbatical in similar way as is done in study leave.
Education and information is the key drivers in every aspect of our lives. The time is ripe and we should work in conjugation with nature. Sustainable development is possible only when the closest associates of nature: the farmers, know the means as well as the end.Such informed farmers will take Agriculture to new heights and then it may become a career of choice among kids.

Garden of Eden-Unforbidden Apple

India has become a land of businesses. The growing number of startups witness the growth story of this developing nation each day. Yet a simple question couldn’t be answered by most of the viriles of market .At which part of the Indian city would a fruitseller be placed to generate maximum sale? The difficult answer to this easy question is right in “front of Hospital” . It seems strange but the place generates maximum revenues.

In most of the Indian cities an established medical shop owner opens a medical shop in front of perhaps every clinic or nursing home. Some of the over ambitious frontrunner even do these in front of every medical practitioner who swears to give business. The same modus operandi holds true for fruit shop owners too.

Our majority of the population lives a life where most of the earning goes to procure daily essentials. And fruits perhaps is never a necessity unless its non consumption is lethal. Hence the dearer ones, the forerunner in terms of price like Apple (Apple of my Eye phrase must have come owing to its price) is consumed only when a Doctor recommends.Although the public is aware of all the benefits of fruits but couldn’t afford to have it in plate.

Banana so far was the cheapest among fruits but for the past few years this fruit has also found its way to richness.Guava trees in many parts of the country are present in almost all the homes but by virtue or vice of climatic diversity in other parts, it is bought at the cost of apples. This is simple gap of demand and supply crippled by logistics. Thus we see despite having the optimal atmosphere for fruits the masses are mostly deprived of it.

We have horticulture department in every town and city. The department plants ornamental plants beside streets and dividers. The local body like municipal corporation irrigates these plants. With consultation from agricultural scientists and universities these streets can be planted with fruits which suit the climatic conditions. The parameters which can affect the safe traffic like spread of tree, branching etc can be worked out. Also the work needs to identify the varieties which are susceptible to harsh environment, need less water, fruit earlier etc. While brainstorming about the idea few intellectuals were apprehensive that the trees need protection from people. Of course this needs to be done but not always. All we need is little leap of faith that once people are surrounded by fruit laden trees they themselves will not harm them. The idea will not only utilise the potential of land in urban areas but also will be a step closer to food security for the nation. The spend may be equal or little more than what we spend on plantation now.
The seminal idea can be taken by a small cooperative or civil self help group in small setup like a village or taluka. There start would be a lead of a step because people there (in rural areas) are more aware of the nature and utility of plants. Moreover project in a closed or small set up will have more likelihood of success.
Sheer thought of moving around a place which is full of lovely fruits thrills me.Need to have fruit just take a walk to your nearest Orchard… Ah…. street. This may be a distant dream but not an impossible one .If God knew that the Human beings can get nourishment in few fruit and vegetables why has He created so much of flora and fauna. All because he wanted to have choices for all of us. The Almighty pours in abundance then why not receive with the biggest vessel.

Do not Wait:Act for what you Love

Its impossible to understand life. If you go to understand it you will miss living it and vice versa. Although understanding is good but better we concentrate on living. If we explore life we come to a definite conclusion that it provides ample opportunities. This opportunity may be in

Studies-We fail in one exam and succeed in other, Health-We fall sick and many times it seems that this is end of life we won’t live further but we bounce back to healthy life,Job-One job seems to be end of World but suddenly another job rejuvenates life,Relationship-A relation turns bitter and there seems no further road but a mere talk cements it upto grave.
Thus exploring life with a heart leaves an impression that its not too harsh as many a times it makes us feel. Infact it is full of hope and opportunities filled in now thats why it is called Present.

One of my friends migrated to bigger city in search of job prospect. His only dream was to earn decent money, help to establish his parents, marry his sister and finally come back to his native land.Days passed the Almighty showered love all his dreams attained sweet conclusion . Meanwhile he was struck in mechanical cycle of a city life.Eventually he was married to a beautiful girl and his life sailed a smooth voyage. As the time passed by, the health of the parents deteriorated.Whenever he talked to them he always felt he should be with them. The local businesses in the home town boomed and the land they possess also skyrocketed to good value. The mere thought of return thrilled him. He often dreamt of life in his home town with enough money through planned business, plenty of spare time to engage in activities which he wants .But smitten by calculations of his gain in job and losses of being in smaller city tied him to be there.

The news of his father’s death suddenly was a bolt from blue. He on his way to home decided to quit and follow what he decided a decade earlier.
Today after 5 years he has ten hectares of land with 25 cows.He runs a dairy and his farm generates him 30lakhs per annum. My friend in his motherland is happiest among all our batchmates who migrated in search of good opportunities and gaudy exposure.

This is bitter reality of life that we wait for some eventuality to happen and then act. Life is full of opportunities but it comes with a timeline. Those who act within this frame live a contented life and those who don’t just pass their time till the end.If you have a dream to follow, follow it today, tomorrow can sometimes be too late.

I fear losing my wallet and data in my PC but a dear friend of mine always reminds that everything can be achieved again except the people and time. Live, love and care for the things and people you always wanted to. Your life shall not merely end, it should Complete.
